Green Lacewings Eggs on Jute Strings
Green Lacewings (Chrysoperla carnea) are a great and cost effective addition to any Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. They are an exceptional all-purpose pest management bug and are especially aggressive towards aphids. Adults only feed on nectar, pollen, and aphid honeydew, while the larvae will feed on aphids and other soft bodied pests such as spider mites, whitefly, thrips, leafhoppers, mealybugs and eggs and small larvae of moths and butterflies. The larvae will feed for about three weeks, spin a cocoon, and appear as adults about ten days later. They are sold in three stages: eggs, larvae, and adult. The type of stage you should order depends on how severe your infestation is.
Larvae: This stage is best used if you have a more severe aphid infestations. During the larval stage the green lacewing has a ferocious appetite and a single larvae can eat up to 400 pests in its 2 week life span. Our larvae are packaged in bottles filled with buckwheat hulls. This allows for an easier and more even application since it gives you more volume to work with. It is also a great way to prevent the larvae for eating each other during shipment. Larvae should be released immediately due to their cannibalistic nature.
Eggs: This stage is great if you want to set up a green lacewing population at the start of the season to prevent aphids and maximize yield. Eggs are also effective if you have a less severe aphid infestation. The eggs take up to 3 - 9 days to hatch once shipped, the hatching time is dependent on the temperature of its environment. Our product is sold on jute strings which ensures eggs are spread the same way eggs would've been laid by the green lacewing itself.
