CaliLiv – Neoseiulus californicus: Broad Mite Predator

CaliLiv – Neoseiulus californicus: Broad Mite Predator

CaliLiv (Neoseiulus californicus) is a highly adaptable predatory mite used to control broad mites and a variety of other pest mites in greenhouse crops. As a Type II predator, CaliLiv develops fastest when feeding on prey  but can also survive on pollen  making them a great option for preventative control.

Target Pests

CaliLiv (N. californicus) effectively manages multiple mite species, including:

  • Broad mites

  • Two-spotted spider mites

  • Carmine spider mites

  • Cyclamen mites

  • Citrus red mites

  • Fruit spider mites

  • Begonia mites

  • Russet mites

Lifecycle of Neoseiulus californicus

  • Egg Stage: Eggs are laid on leaf hairs and hatch in 1–2 days.

  • Larval Stage: Non-feeding stage lasting about 1 day.

  • Protonymph & Deutonymph: Last 3–4 days each; mites actively feed on broad mites and other small pest mites.

  • Adult Stage: Begin reproducing within 1 day of emergence. Females lay ~2 eggs per day; female-to-male ratio typically 2:1.

  • Generation Time: Full lifecycle completes in 7–10 days under optimal conditions, allowing rapid population establishment for effective broad mite suppression.

Key Benefits

Benefit

How It Helps Growers

Broad pest control

Actively preys on broad mites and other pest mites.

Survival without prey

Can persist on pollen, maintaining predator populations even when broad mites are scarce.

Rapid establishment

Reproduces quickly under favorable conditions, providing timely crop protection.

Application Guidelines, Storage & Handling

  • Gently roll the bottle to mix mites without shaking, then sprinkle evenly over plants.
  • Adjust release rates based on crop type, infestation level, and predator-to-prey ratio.

  • Use immediately for best results. Short-term storage: 1–2 days in a cool, dry place (10–15 °C), away from sunlight, wind, and extreme temperatures.

  • Optimal conditions: 24–27 °C with >60% RH to support establishment and multiple generations.

Recommended Release Rates

Purpose

Release Rate

Repeat Every

Preventative

25–50 mites/m²

14–21 days

Curative

200–250 mites/m²

7 days

CaliLiv (N. californicus) is a resilient and versatile predator that ensures continuous broad mite suppression. Its ability to survive on alternative food sources and reproduce quickly helps maintain healthy, productive crops.
